eLearning courses on Basic Safety
CommLab India has successfully designed and developed a three-module online course on Basic Safety in BC Hydro Facilities. BC Hydro followed a competitive RFP process early this year and awarded the contract to CommLab India.
The course is designed in Flash and HTML and is highly interactive. The learning duration is about four hours and has learning objectives that are performance-based (Robert Mager's principles of setting instructional objectives) and reflect measurability (Benjamin Bloom's Taxonomy). The course design is based on learner performance needs rather than the structure of the content. Therefore, each topic is treated as a Learning Object or a basic unit of learning. Each and every Topic is taken through a "Learning Cycle". When a learner starts a Topic, he/ she will invariably go through the Learning Cycle.
The stages in the Learning Cycle are:
- Review: sets the context and helps the learner bridge prior knowledge.
- Learning: is the Information Transfer or Knowledge Acquisition phase.
- Application: will consist of case studies or best practices or applied exercises.
- Adaptation: provides direction and support to help the learner transfer the new knowledge to his or her own performance context needs.
Therefore, the learner will experience a complete and comprehensive learning of a topic.
