Getting Started with VILT

Day: Day 1 July 13, Session 1
Speaker: Shalini Merugu | Director – Learning Solutions, CommLab India
Time: 9:00 AM - 9:45 AM EDT / - Your local time
Shalini Merugu

Shalini is a learning design professional with 16+ years of experience in instructional design and an expert in customer training, technical documentation, and content writing.

She holds a Master’s in English Literature and conducts customer education workshops and presents webinars on learning design.

How do we design VILT sessions that offer sticky learning?

The effectiveness of virtual instructor-led training depends on content and collaboration. While content will have to be designed in different formats such as participant and facilitator guides, technology will dictate the activities that can be used. Add to this the initial resistance from learners with the blurring boundaries between home and work – and getting started with VILT can seem like a lot.

Join Shalini as she decodes VILT and takes us through:

  • What VILT is NOT
  • Overcoming challenges to get started and during conversion
  • Instructional materials needed for VILT
  • Ways to maximize engagement – polls, chat, annotations, breakout rooms
  • The process of converting ILT to VILT
  • Technology aspects and top decisions

VILTs don’t have to be limiting!

What Microlearning is and What it Isn’t

Day: Day 2 July 14, Session 1
Speaker: Barsha Chetia | Manager – Customer Experience, CommLab India
Time: 9:00 AM - 9:45 AM EDT / - Your local time
Barsha Chetia

A trained journalist, Barsha works closely with customers to understand their unique training requirements and drafts the solution – in collaboration with the learning design team.

A writer, and eLearning strategist, Barsha offers technology-enabled solutions in the form of articles and webinars.

Is microlearning only video? Is it a single dose solution?

Microlearning is being used increasingly for corporate training but its implementation and usage are mired in obscurity. Microlearning can be integrated in a blend, aligned with performance-based learning objectives, leverage existing content, is an effective way to ‘push learning’ and more. It can be configured in a variety of formats and used throughout the learning journey. However, it is not a one-time solution, nor can it be used standalone for complex topics.

Join Barsha as she shares insights on:

  • What microlearning is and what it’s NOT
  • Microlearning design characteristics
  • Microlearning benefits for learners and organizations
  • Types of microlearning assets
  • Form following function
  • Discovery questions that should guide design

Radical Candor — How to Get What You Want by Saying What You Mean — by Kim Scott - BOOK REVIEW

Day: Day 2 July 14, Session 4
Facilitator: Dr Ayesha Habeeb Omer | COO & Co-Founder, CommLab India
Time: 1:30 PM - 2:15 PM EDT / - Your local time
Dr Ayesha Habeeb Omer
Dr. Ayesha Habeeb Omer is a hands-on leader passionate about customer delight – understanding customer needs and ensuring the company delivers the highest value for their money. She’s a hands-on leader passionate about building CommLab India’s culture, and has 20+ years’ experience in financial services, university teaching, training, and eLearning. She holds an Advanced eLearning Instructional Design Certificate from ATD, USA.

About the Session

Lack of candor blocks smart ideas, fast action, and good people contributing all the stuff they've got. It's a killer.

  • First and foremost, candor gets more people in the conversation.
  • Second, candor generates speed. When ideas are in everyone's face, they can be debated rapidly, expanded and enhanced, and acted upon.
  • Third, candor cuts costs – lots, although you'll never be able to put a precise number on it.

In this session, we will review Kim Scott’s book, ‘Radical Candor’ to understand how we can care personally and challenge directly as bosses and managers, getting what we want by saying what we mean.

Let’s explore how to become candid bosses who grow and nurture strong relationships based on trust – by having real conversations, agreeing to disagree, creating a culture of feedback, and more.

Good news for bookworms – we will be sharing other book summaries too. So don’t miss this exciting session!!

eLearning Design – Science or Art?

eLearning design is both a science and an art. The science includes following adult learning principles, aligning training with business goals, identifying need-to-know content, and setting performance-based learning objectives among others. The art is all about designing immersive courses with relevant visuals, appropriate interactivities, the right mix of audio, and more. The process gets complex when classroom material is to be converted online, if translations are needed, and more.

Join Barsha as she demystifies:

  • Setting learning objectives
  • Aligning content and assessments with learning objectives
  • Selecting the right level of interactivity
  • Deciding usage of audio – duration, tone
  • Framing formative and summative assessments
  • Planning for translations along with the master course

Take a tour of the science and art of eLearning design!
