CommLab India and Lancaster University Reimagine Learning Design Through AI-Powered Innovation

CommLab India and Lancaster University Reimagine Learning Design Through AI-Powered Innovation

CommLab India and Lancaster University have completed the first WorkLearning.AI Change Laboratory workshop, bringing learning design professionals together to examine how artificial intelligence could reshape the way enterprise learning is designed, developed, reviewed, and delivered.

The two-day AI-powered learning design workshop was facilitated by Dr. Brett Bligh of Lancaster University and conducted with CommLab India’s Learning Design team. The sessions explored how artificial intelligence, including Claude, could support content development, personalization, collaboration, quality, and operational efficiency across learning projects.

Rather than focusing only on AI tools, the workshop examined how learning design work itself could evolve. Participants reviewed current workflows, analysed real project examples, identified recurring constraints, and explored the root causes of inefficiencies.

On the second day, the Learning Design team developed future-state workflows covering content creation, prompt engineering, personalization, collaborative review, and iterative design. The proposed approaches were tested through peer feedback and prioritized based on feasibility and potential business value.

A central outcome was a shared commitment to use AI to augment human expertise rather than replace it. The team identified opportunities to improve speed, scalability, quality, and consistency while retaining instructional judgment, customer context, and accountability.

“The value of the Change Laboratory lies in helping practitioners examine the full system around their work, rather than simply adding a new tool to an existing process,” said Dr. Brett Bligh of Lancaster University. “This enables teams to design more thoughtful and sustainable ways for people and AI to work together.”

The workshop concluded with an action plan covering priorities, ownership, success measures, and implementation steps. Its findings and proposed workflow models will be consolidated into a post-workshop report to guide CommLab India’s continuing AI transformation and contribute to the wider WorkLearning.AI research programme.

“AI gives us an opportunity to rethink how learning is designed, not only how quickly it is produced,” said Dr. RK Prasad, CEO and Co-Founder of CommLab India. “By connecting research with practical implementation, we can identify where AI adds value while preserving the expertise that effective learning design requires.”

Dr. Ayesha Habeeb Omer, Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer of CommLab India, said, “AI can help our teams deliver greater value at speed and scale, but sustainable impact depends on how well it is integrated into people, processes, and quality standards.”

The Hyderabad workshop is the first in a planned series of Change Laboratory engagements under WorkLearning.AI. Future sessions will involve participating organizations in other regions and contribute to practical, evidence-informed frameworks for AI-enabled workplace learning.
